Branding Overview

The branding for GMEC 2025 is based on the desire to create a visual identity that is clearly tied to the eradication of malaria, that works in a variety of formats (logo only, acronym only, logo + acronym + name), and that is not only memorable but has the potential to be iconic. The logo is seen in each of these forms below:

Figure 1: Logo + acronym + name.

Figure 1 is the default visual branding; when in doubt, use it. The strikethrough “M” in red expresses our goal of eradicating malaria, with the strikethrough symbolizing eradication, and the red symbolizing the blood that is an integral part of the life cycle of the malaria parasite. Setting the word “Malaria” in red ties it into the strikethrough “M” and, we believe, will make the meaning of the strikethrough clear to even casual observers.

Figure 2: Logo + acronym.

Figure 2 removes the name and includes only the acronym of the Congress. For uses in which viewers will already be aware of the name, this version is simpler, more powerful, and is easy to read at smaller

Figure 3: Logo only

Figure 3 is the logo only. With a knowledgeable audience, this will be useful for dramatic purposes; with an audience unfamiliar with GMEC, it could lead to curiosity and discussion. It is our hope that this device will find usage beyond our Congress to become a widely recognized symbol for the eradication of malaria.

Figure 4 is our official color palette. All but one of the six are variants of our primary red and black colors. The sixth color, goldenrod, is an accent.
